What happened

A fire broke out in a battery storage unit at the Townsite Solar and Storage facility in Boulder City, Nevada, operated and owned by Arevon Energy, with battery systems supplied by Tesla and the plant built by EPC contractor Rosendin. Fire crews arrived within minutes and confirmed one battery unit was fully involved in flames. During the response a second, adjacent battery unit also ignited. Both units continued to burn and smoulder for approximately six hours.

A multi-agency response was mounted, including local and neighbouring fire departments and the regional transportation authority, which closed a nearby stretch of highway as a precaution. No injuries were reported and officials stated there was no threat to the public. Fire crews eventually handed the site back to site personnel to continue monitoring the smouldering units. The battery system was reported to be roughly 3.8 years old at the time of the incident.
