Lessons learned
Substations in built-up streets need a clear isolation and access plan so fire crews can work safely around electrical equipment.
Network operators should be ready to restore or switch supply when a local substation fire cuts power to homes and businesses.
Where the cause and the failed equipment are not yet known, the operator should still record what happened so similar sites can be checked.
