Lessons learned
- A substation fire can interrupt supply to hundreds of customers and disrupt council and leisure services, so operators should identify dependent public services in advance and agree restoration priorities with them.
- Coordinated working with the fire service to make equipment safe before restoration reduces the risk to responders and to the network.
- Clear and regular updates on the number of customers affected and the restoration progress help the public and local services plan around an outage.
