Saipem is reported to be investigating a crane accident aboard the Saipem 7000 off Norway. Reporting says a wire broke and the vessel listed. The vessel was later described as being in a stable and safe position. It is not reported which project was involved, whether work was under way at the time, or whether anyone was injured.

Reporting states that a wire broke. The cause has not been reported and is under investigation.

  1. A broken crane wire on a heavy-lift vessel used for offshore wind work can affect vessel stability and should be treated as a marine safety event.
  2. Lifting should stop until the vessel is confirmed stable and the failed wire and load path have been checked.
  3. Do not assume the project, the stage of work, injuries or a root cause until they are reported.
