2026Published 5 Oct 2026
What happened
On a Sunday, a fire broke out in an electricity box mounted on a pole at Sonar ka Tara Chowraha in Meja, Prayagraj. Flames rose quickly and people nearby were alarmed. Villagers telephoned Aunta Power House and asked for the supply to be cut. The supply was switched off, but the box kept burning until villagers brought the fire under control. The report does not say whether anyone was hurt. Villagers said a larger accident could have followed if the supply had not been cut and the fire not controlled.
Contributing factors
The cause of the fire is not reported. Villagers have asked the electricity department to inspect the box and poles and to improve safety arrangements.
Lessons learned
- Rapid reporting of a fire on distribution equipment can allow the supply to be isolated.
- Isolation alone may not put the fire out; a local means of controlling a small electrical fire still matters.
- Residents who know how to reach the local power house can shorten the time before supply is cut.
