Short circuit injures three workers at Tseung Kwan O data centre

2025Published 4 Oct 2026

Three workers were injured by a suspected short circuit while inspecting electrical wiring installations in an electricity meter room at the MegaPlus data centre in Tseung Kwan O. The incident occurred around 10am. Firefighters found smoke on arrival. About 20 people had already left the building on their own. One worker with burns was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Two others, one with burns to the head and right hand and one with an injury to the corner of the eye, were taken to Tseung Kwan O Hospital. The case has been classified as an industrial accident and the cause remains under investigation.

The source says the suspected short circuit occurred during an inspection of electrical wiring installations. It does not identify a confirmed cause.

  1. Inspections of electrical wiring in meter rooms need controls that keep a short circuit from injuring the people doing the work.
  2. People on site need a clear way to leave if smoke appears in a data centre.
  3. Treat the cause as unconfirmed until the investigation reports.
