Nov 2023Published 2 Oct 2026

On Thursday 9 November 2023, a fire broke out at a substation in the area of 16th and Lehman Streets in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. The fire caused a power outage, and Northwest Elementary School sent about 600 students home in the morning, according to the school district. Pictures sent to the news outlet showed tall flames coming from the substation. The cause had not been reported, and no injuries had been reported. The account was described as a developing story.

The cause of the fire has not been reported.

  1. A substation fire can cut supply to nearby public buildings and force an early closure, so operators should keep school and emergency contacts current.
  2. Early public statements should separate what is confirmed from what is still unknown, including the cause.
  3. Pictures of flames do not identify the failed equipment; operators should preserve the site for later examination.
