Fire at 220 kV substation in Siddipet after an explosion

2024Published 1 Oct 2026

On a Wednesday evening in February 2024, a fire broke out at a 220 kV substation in Siddipet town, Telangana, after an explosion. Four fire engines were deployed, and firefighters had been working for more than three hours. At the time of reporting the fire was not yet under control, and no casualties had been reported. A request was made to state officials to take steps to restore power. The cause of the explosion, the extent of damage and whether power was lost were not reported.

The source reports that the fire followed an explosion. It does not state what caused the explosion or the fire.

  1. A substation fire after an explosion can still be burning hours after the first alarm, so mutual aid from nearby fire stations should be requested early.
  2. Grid operators should be told at once so restoration can be planned while the site is still unsafe.
  3. Casualty and damage figures should be treated as provisional until the fire is out and the site has been checked.
