Transformer explosion cuts power across Launceston

What happened

Pulse Tasmania reported an electrical explosion at two power transformer stations around Trevallyn, Launceston, just after 8pm on a Saturday night in late August 2024. A bright green flash was seen across the city. Power was cut to thousands of homes across much of Launceston's west, including Trevallyn, Riverside and parts of the CBD and Kings Meadows. TasNetworks said crews were on site working to restore supply and asked customers to call the fault centre only if they saw power lines down or damaged. The cause, any injuries, and how long the outage lasted were not reported.
