Transformer fire cuts power to hundreds in Albemarle County

A fire broke out on a utility pole in the White Hall substation service area of western Albemarle County, Virginia, cutting power to more than 400 members of the Central Virginia Electric Cooperative. The outage, located between the communities of Ivy and Crozet, was first reported around 12:30pm on a Friday. Crews responded and initially believed the transformer itself would need replacing. Later inspection found that only the top of the pole had been burned and the transformer was intact. The pole was repaired and electricity supply was restored to affected customers the same afternoon, a few hours after the outage began.
