Wind turbine fire reported at Anoux wind farm near Briey, France

What happened

A wind turbine believed to belong to the Anoux wind farm near Briey, in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department close to the Luxembourg border, caught fire on a Thursday evening in January 2025. Flames burst from the top of the turbine with burning debris falling to the ground, captured in footage shared locally. A local farmer raised the alarm at around 9.45pm. Firefighters from the Mancieulles brigade attended, with reinforcements from Briey joining them.

There was no human presence in the immediate area and the fire did not spread beyond the turbine. Authorities set up a safety perimeter and halted electricity production at the site. The extent of damage to the turbine and the cause of the fire were not confirmed in reporting.
