Cable short circuit sparks fire at Lunwei East District floating solar park, Taiwan
EIR-0415A fire broke out in a section of the 192 MW Lunwei East District floating solar park in Changbin Industrial Park, Changhua County, Taiwan. The project contractor, United Renewable Energy Engineering Co (URE), said the fire was caused by a short circuit in a cable, resulting in the combustion of around 30 metres of cable line. Approximately 10 MW of the plant was preventively shut down during the incident. The fire was brought under control within an hour, and restoration work subsequently recovered the cables and associated waste materials. No injuries were reported, and URE stated there was no impact on the overall operation of the solar farm or its surrounding environment. The company clarified that solar modules, made primarily of aluminium and glass, were not involved in the combustion, and no pollutants were found to have leaked following inspection by fire and environmental protection units.
