What happened
A fire broke out at the Zhuyuan Extra High Voltage Substation in Hsinchu City, Taiwan, on a Monday in March 2026 during equipment testing. Three workers at the site were injured and taken to hospital. Two of them later died from their injuries, raising the death toll to two. Taiwan Power Co., which operates the facility, confirmed the incident. Prosecutors, fire investigators and police jointly carried out evidence collection at the site the following day.
