What happened
A fire was reported in the electrical cabin of a photovoltaic park at Corridonia, Italy. A report published by Gaeta.it on 16 December 2024 states that firefighters from Macerata attended and contained the fire using foam. The original Gaeta.it article could not be retrieved because the page is no longer available, so this account relies on the feed summary of that report. The same event is also reported to have been covered by Cronache Maceratesi. The source reviewed does not give the date of the fire itself, the cause, any injuries or the extent of damage.
Contributing factors
Not reported.
Lessons learned
- Electrical cabins at solar parks can ignite, so operators need a tested fire response plan that includes foam or other suitable agents.
- Fire services need clear, unobstructed access to transformer and switchgear cabins at PV sites.
- Operators should record the cause, time and damage of any cabin fire from their own inspection, because press reports often omit these details.
