What happened
Firefighters were called to a fire involving photovoltaic panels on the roof of a condominium in Casarsa della Delizia, Friuli Venezia Giulia, north-east Italy. Crews extinguished the fire on the panels and then checked the roof structure for damage. No one was hurt. The fire service announcement, published on 13 July 2025, states that the cause was still under investigation at the time of publication. The date of the fire, the number and size of the panels, the age of the installation and how the fire spread across the roof are not reported in the available source. This entry rests on the official fire service headline and summary and will be updated when fuller reporting is available.
Contributing factors
Not reported. The cause was still under investigation at the time of the announcement.
Lessons learned
- Rooftop solar systems on multi-occupancy buildings benefit from clearly labelled DC isolators and emergency shutdown points, so that arrays can be de-energised before firefighters work on the roof.
- After a fire affecting a roof-mounted array, a structural check of the roof is worthwhile, because fire damage and the added load of wet or damaged panels can weaken supporting structures.
- Owners and managers of rooftop systems benefit from keeping installer records, maintenance logs and electrical test certificates, which help investigators establish causes quickly.
