What happened
On Friday evening, 16 October 2026, a technical fault occurred at the Amda substation in the Barhani area of Chandauli district, Uttar Pradesh, according to local press. The fault cut supply on all 10 feeders connected to the substation, leaving about 120 villages without electricity. Staff alerted a junior engineer, who attended the site to start repairs. Officials said power would be restored within a few hours. The feeders served villages including Rarua, Jeoriyabad, Barhani, Asna, Kakrait, Dheena and Vishwa Bank. At the time of the report, repair work was still in progress and restoration had not been confirmed.
Contributing factors
The source describes only a technical fault or technical defect at the substation. It does not state the failed component, whether a protection or control system operated, or whether the fault spread across the substation busbar.
Lessons learned
- Where practicable, substations should be designed so that a fault on one feeder does not interrupt supply on other feeders served from the same site.
- Operators should keep clear, tested fault-isolation and switching procedures so that supply to unaffected feeders can be restored quickly.
- Local communities should be given regular updates with realistic restoration times while repairs are under way.
