Transformer explosion leaves thousands without power in York County

Sept 2024Published 1 Oct 2026

Companies named in this entry: Met-Ed

A transformer exploded near Loucks Road in Manchester Township, York County, Pennsylvania, on 13 September 2024. Emergency dispatch confirmed the explosion. A Met-Ed outage map showed more than 4,000 customers without power. No fire or injuries were reported. Met-Ed stated that power would be restored at 1 p.m. the same day; whether that time was met is not reported.

  1. A single transformer failure can cut supply to thousands of customers, so operators should keep spare capacity and a clear restoration plan.
  2. Early confirmation from dispatch and the outage map helps separate an explosion from a fire or injury event.
  3. Published restoration times should be treated as estimates until crews confirm supply is back.
