Transformer explosion closes road and cuts power in Brick

Oct 2024Published 30 Sept 2026

Police said a transformer explosion in the area of Brick Boulevard in Brick, New Jersey, closed the road from Drum Point Road to Pine Tree Road on 14 October 2024. They said there was no active fire, but wires were arcing on the road, and motorists were told to avoid the area. Jersey Central Power & Light Company's website, as reported by the Asbury Park Press, showed just under 5,000 customers in the vicinity without power. The cause was not reported.

Not reported.

  1. After a transformer event, arcing conductors can keep a road unsafe even when there is no active fire, so isolation should be confirmed before the road is reopened.
  2. Early outage figures from a utility website are a snapshot and may change.
  3. A first report often does not state why the equipment failed, so the cause should be recorded once it is known.
