Fire at electrical substation on Tsitsernakaberd Highway prompts investigation

What happened

A fire broke out at an electrical substation on Tsitsernakaberd Highway in Yerevan on 27 September 2026. The 112 Operational Management Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs received the report at 17:07. Eleven firefighting and rescue crews from the Yerevan City Rescue Department attended, with duty teams from the Firefighting and Rescue Operations Organization Division and the Psychological Support and Medical Provision Department. The fire was contained at 20:10 and extinguished at 21:10.

The Investigative Committee of Armenia reported that criminal proceedings were opened under Article 264, Part 2, Clauses 2 and 6 of the Criminal Code, concerning destruction or damage of property by arson, explosion or other publicly dangerous means resulting in especially large-scale property damage.
