What happened
On the morning of 25 January 2024, Duke Energy told a local broadcaster that one person was hurt during an incident at one of its substations in Charlotte, and that the incident left a few hundred people without power. The outage was reported to have started just after 9 a.m. Around the same time, the emergency medical service said one person was taken to hospital with serious injuries after an electrocution on Elizabeth Avenue near Kings Drive.
Duke Energy said the person was a contractor working at one of its substations and that it was investigating. The company had not named the substation or described how the electrocution happened, and the person's condition after admission was not reported.
