Transformer fire causes extended outage in Germantown

A transformer near Observation Drive and Ridge Road was reported to have blown and caught fire, with a related power outage in parts of the Milestone area in Germantown, including parts of Milestone Shopping Center. The report was made at about 1:30pm and power was said to have remained out for an extended period. Video later showed an SUV being removed; it was not reported whether the vehicle was involved.

  1. A transformer failure on the distribution network can leave nearby shops and homes without power for an extended period.
  2. Early notice from the fire service helps operators confirm the failed equipment and the affected area.
  3. Until the cause is known, treat nearby vehicle activity as unconfirmed and keep the public account limited to what has been reported.
