On a Sunday afternoon, a fire broke out at about 1 pm in the outdoor substation office of Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) near the chief minister's camp office at Somajiguda, Hyderabad. It started in a section office on the first floor, where old records and plastic cases of electricity meters had been dumped. A short-circuit, believed to have been caused by rodent bites, was reported as the cause. A few employees were on the ground floor. No one was injured, and the department claimed no losses. A fire tender already stationed nearby because of VIP movement put the fire out within minutes.
The source reports a short-circuit believed to have been caused by rodent bites. Combustible records and plastic meter cases were stored in the office where the fire started. The cause has not been confirmed beyond that report.
- Pest control in substation buildings can reduce the risk of rodent damage to electrical equipment.
- Old records and plastic cases add fire load and should not be stored in substation offices.
- A fire appliance already on site can limit how far a small office fire spreads.
