Crane boom collapse injures four on Pacific Osprey
EIR-1213The offshore wind installation vessel Pacific Osprey, operated by Swire Blue Ocean, was jacked up alongside the quay in Eemshaven, the Netherlands, when the box section of its crane boom collapsed onto the bridge at about 17.25 CET on 23 August 2018. The crane was undergoing maintenance. The company said four crew members were injured, one seriously and three with minor injuries, and that one other crew member was taken to hospital with shock. Three people were later discharged. One remained in a critical condition, and another crew member was in hospital under observation. Material damage was confined to the vessel, which the company said was significant. No third-party personnel were injured and no port infrastructure was damaged.
The crane was undergoing maintenance when the boom collapsed. The company did not state a cause.
