Two substation fires disrupt power supply in Port of Spain, Trinidad

Fires broke out at two electrical substations in Port of Spain, Trinidad, on the same day. The first fire was reported at around 11.20am at the Power Gen substation on Stone Street, when workers noticed smoke coming from the substation. Fire and safety officers responded and the blaze was doused shortly after midday. A power outage resulting from the daytime fire caused traffic jams on some streets. A second fire was reported later the same night at the substation on Abbatoir Road in East Port of Spain. The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission stated that the two fires were unrelated to each other and unrelated to dips in power experienced earlier in the month, which it attributed to a bush fire and a large tree.
