Wind turbine collapses at Chisholm View II wind farm in Oklahoma

EIR-0690

A wind turbine collapsed at the Chisholm View II wind project near Hunter in Grant County, Oklahoma. Enel Green Power North America, which operates the site, confirmed the incident and said it was working with the turbine manufacturer GE to investigate the cause of the failure. No injuries were reported. A company representative said no one had been within 300 feet of the turbine since it fell, and a drone was used to assess the wreckage while the company awaited arrival of an investigation team. The public was asked to avoid the area while the assessment continued. As of the report, the cause of the collapse had not been determined and the investigation was ongoing.

Not reported; the cause of the turbine failure was unknown at the time of reporting and was under investigation by the operator and the turbine manufacturer.

  1. Establish and enforce an exclusion zone around collapsed or damaged turbines until a structural assessment is complete.
  2. Use remote inspection tools such as drones to evaluate wreckage safely before personnel approach.
  3. Engage the original equipment manufacturer promptly in failure investigations to identify systemic risks across similar turbine models.
