What happened
On the morning of 22 July 2024, a fire broke out in batteries housed in two containers inside a farm shed on the Krommedijk in Zuidland, on the Voorne-Putten peninsula in the Netherlands. The batteries stored energy generated by solar panels on the farm. The fire started at around 05:45 and flames broke through the roof of the shed, releasing large amounts of smoke that drifted towards the polder area near Hekelingen. A fire service spokesperson said that extinguishing the fire could take several days because battery fires of this kind are difficult to put out. No further details on injuries or evacuation were reported in the source.
