Battery cabinet smokes at solar-plus-storage site in Douglas, Massachusetts

Emergency responders were called to a commercial fire alarm at a solar energy facility equipped with a battery energy storage system in Douglas, Massachusetts, after smoke was observed coming from a single battery cabinet. On arrival, crews confirmed the condition was limited to one cabinet and established a water supply as a precaution, but no water application or fire department intervention was ultimately required. A drone-based thermal assessment confirmed no elevated temperatures in neighbouring cabinets. Responders continued monitoring until the affected cabinet returned to ambient temperature several hours later. No hazardous materials release, injuries, evacuation, or impact to the surrounding community were reported. The site was returned to the operator, BlueWave Asset Management, which arranged a fire watch while the contents of the affected cabinet were removed from service.
