What happened
On 5 April, after 23:00, the State Fire Service control centre in Słubice received a report of a fire at a wind turbine between the villages of Lisów and Golice in Lubusz voivodeship, Poland. The source does not state the year. When crews arrived, the whole nacelle was on fire and some rotor blades were also burning. Firefighters secured the scene and set up a safety zone around the turbine because damaged parts could fall.
Units from the State Fire Service in Słubice and volunteer fire brigades from Golice and Słubice took part. After the response, the site was handed over to the company managing the wind farm. The report does not state the cause, the financial loss, or whether anyone was hurt.
Contributing factors
Not reported. The source does not state the cause of the fire.
Lessons learned
- Set up an exclusion zone around a burning turbine, because nacelle and blade fragments can fall from height.
- Hand the scene over clearly to the wind farm operator once it is made safe, so that the site can be assessed.
