At about 14:00 on Sunday 5 July 2026, a rotor blade became detached from a wind turbine at the Waldhausen wind farm at Aalen-Waldhausen in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The blade fell to the ground directly beneath the turbine. Statkraft, which operates the wind farm, said in a press release dated 6 July 2026 that, as far as was known, no one was injured and there was no damage beyond the turbine itself.

The access roads to the wind farm were cordoned off. Statkraft shut down all seven turbines at the wind farm immediately. One turbine was also taken out of service on site on the Monday morning for technical reasons. The company sent its technical operations manager to the site to assess the situation and the measures needed. The cause was not known at the time of the statement and was to be investigated with the responsible authorities and independent experts.

Not yet established. The cause was under investigation by the authorities and independent experts at the time of the statement. Statkraft said that its turbines follow a strict maintenance plan based on manufacturer specifications and legal requirements, that maintenance is carried out by certified contractors, and that maintenance records are complete. These are the company's statements and have not been verified.

  1. After a blade failure, shut down all turbines in the affected wind farm and cordon off access roads and the ground beneath the rotor until the site is safe.
  2. Keep complete, documented maintenance records against manufacturer requirements, and be ready to show them to investigators after an event.
  3. Plan exclusion zones for debris beneath turbines and along access routes, because a blade can land directly below the rotor.
