On 9 October 2026, at about 15:30, a fire broke out at a solar power generation facility in Jido-eup, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, South Korea, according to a Korean-language report published on 10 October 2026. Fire services attended and were extinguishing the fire when the report was published. The fire burned in vegetation near the solar panels, and black smoke rose from the site. Fire services confirmed that the facility did not have an energy storage system (ESS). The exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage had not been reported.

The source does not state the cause of the fire. It reports that the fire burned in vegetation beside the solar panels, but it does not say how the fire started or whether the vegetation affected its spread.

  1. Keep vegetation under control around solar arrays and electrical equipment, since growth beneath or beside panels can carry a fire and may complicate firefighting.
  2. Establish early whether a site holds storage or other high-hazard equipment, so responders can be briefed without delay.
  3. Record ignition points, times and conditions at the first alarm to support a cause investigation.
