Transformer fire at a high-voltage substation in Gwinnett County brought under control

Gwinnett County Fire Rescue responded early on a Tuesday to a fire at a high-voltage substation in Gwinnett County, Georgia. Crews found a transformer on fire, with a large fire and heavy heat inside the substation perimeter. They set a protective perimeter and called Georgia Power to help with electrical hazards. The Hazardous Materials Team and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division monitored for possible environmental hazards. The fire was brought under control around 6:30 a.m. No injuries and no significant power outages were reported. Georgia Power staff were investigating the cause and making repairs.
