Transformer fire disrupts power at Randfontein substation

On the morning of 6 April 2019, Eskom said a transformer caught fire at about 08:00 at one of its substations in Randfontein on the West Rand. Several areas were without power, including Randfontein Municipality, Randfontein Industries and Azaadville. Eskom said the cause was not known, and that restoration could not be timed until the fire service had extinguished the fire and the damage had been assessed.
The cause was not reported.
