A wind turbine in Portland, Texas caught fire on 23 February 2020. Local officials said at the time that they had no choice but to let the fire burn itself out. No injuries were reported and officials were unsure how the fire started. The damaged turbine remained standing until demolition crews brought it down on a Monday afternoon in October 2020. Two blasts were used, the first unsuccessful and the second bringing the structure down. A video of the demolition was shared on social media by the San Patricio County sheriff. The owner, operator and turbine model were not reported, and no cause has been published.
