Storm damages Porth Wen solar farm on Anglesey

Hundreds of panels at the Porth Wen solar farm near Cemaes on Anglesey were shredded and torn from their fixings during Storm Darragh. The 190-acre site, which began generating in 2022, sustained damage and a controlled clean-up is underway. EDF Renewables UK is assessing the full extent of the damage. Repair and panel replacement work is expected to continue into early 2025, with generation resuming only when safe. Neighbouring residents have expressed concern over possible land contamination from shattered panels and the absence of barriers or signage.
The damage occurred during Storm Darragh. The company has not yet reported why panels came off their fixings, and no finding on mounting adequacy has been published. Anglesey is described in reporting as a place known as the windy island and as exposed to Atlantic storms.
